Other topics covered in the class include: Taxes, investing, preparing for a career (mock interviews), and a “Shark Tank” entrepreneurship project to end the year.

As the semester comes to a close, Sixth Form English classes are putting on performances of Hamlet throughout Armour!
After reading, talking, and writing about the play for a month, each individual section broke up into “troupes” of 3-6 students and took a week to choose, memorize, stage, and act 10-minute scenes. Students memorized between 20-40 lines of text and performed in front of their peers.
From December 3-31, join us in spreading joy to students and faculty on Williams Hill by making a gift to The Westminster Fund! Your donation of any size impacts our students by enriching programs in the arts and athletics, supporting student financial aid and funding professional development opportunities for our faculty.

“Slowly, I found that sleepovers weren’t about being uncomfortable or far away from my family but building new relationships and making memories with people who cared.
I realized that hugs weren’t just a physical squeeze that I couldn’t accept but about offering and receiving comfort, love, and support – sometimes in ways that words couldn’t express.”
So just what exactly do sleepovers and hugs have in common? Liza ‘25 went in detail on both topics and how minor fears turned into happiness, connection, and heartfelt embraces.

Lily '25 spoke in Chapel today about entering as a new sophomore and her adjustment to life on the Hill. Although everything may not go exactly as planned, embracing everything about this place can lead to self discovery. See the full Chapel using the link in our story or on our youtube page.
Community and Involvement are part of the core values that drive the educational experience here.
A group of over 20 Westminster students volunteered their day working at Habitat for Humanity in East Hartford on November 6. Students helped build framing, tape and seal the inside of residential properties, cut and nailed various boards and garage pieces into place, among a host of other jobs. They showed true grit and grace and were incredibly grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to help out.

"But consistency is not always about grand achievements or giant leaps forward. It’s about the small, everyday steps we take, even when we don’t see immediate results. It’s about showing up, day in and day out, and trusting the process, even when it might feel like nothing is changing."
Mark '25 spoke in Chapel today about living in the moment, about recognizing the deep and intricate lives of others, and about chipping away at weaknesses to make progress over time.

"I’ve learned not to take the little things for granted, to appreciate every board game night in the dorm, every family-style table, and every form event because, shortly, they will all come to an end.
I’ve also come to realize that the people around me are the closest thing to siblings I'll ever have, and I wouldn't change that for the world."
After once longing for a sibling, Sofia '25 realized she had all she needed here on Williams Hill. As she discovered how this community became her family, she also realized that graduation day is approaching. Today in Chapel, she talked about how her time here is winding down and encouraged everyone to see the awesome in the ordinary.

Third Formers hiked nearby Talcott Mountain yesterday on a day when older students took the PSAT and worked on college apps. At the top of the mountain, students reflected and wrote short letters to themselves that they will get back during their Sixth Form year.
"Some days, I have a ton of bad moments. But in a day, there's always a good moment. I promise you that. If you take anything away from today, take away the fact there is a good moment, and no such thing as a bad day. Keep moving forward."

Student Activities has been BUSY the last few weeks! The night before Grandparents Day, students and faculty gathered for the second annual Faculty v. Sixth Form soccer game. Well done seniors on the 5-2 victory! Dance season kicked off in Adams with some neon lights, fire pits and food on Ekholm. And finally, the carnival winning pickleballing fourth form gathered on Sunday for some food and racquet sports on the tennis courts. Whether it’s baking, playing, dancing, hiking or singing, always something going on during the weekends.

On Oct. 3, Mimi Gilbert, an indie-folk singer-songwriter, brought her soulful music to the Book T. Bradshaw Jr. Stage in Werner Centennial Center as part of the Graham Gund ’59 Performing Artists series.
Gilbert’s evocative songs have been described as timeless reflections on love, loss and a life deeply lived. Many of her lyrics reflect a sense of vulnerability, uncertainty and heartache that connected with both students and faculty members in the all-school assembly.

"All of we Turtons agree on one thing - we don’t know exactly how, but Westminster kicked us into gear. Westy gave us a head start and pointed us in the right direction. And it gave us the Grit to make things happen in our lives and the Grace to accept when things were difficult or not as simple as we had hoped."
In a special grandparents day Chapel, Tom Turton '61 spoke about all Westminster has done for NINE Turton family members through the years. Although it was a different place back in the 60s, Westy instilled many of the same values then that it teaches today. Above all, the people of this community cared. They cared during his time and still care immensely today.

Grandparents Day had it all! Our guests attended classes, sat in on a beautiful Chapel Talk, visited the observatory, and stayed for sports. We are so lucky to have welcomed so many grandparents to campus today.
“I encourage you to take that leap of faith, make your own path, grab a hold of that strong hand for help, and embrace the lessons along the way.
Don’t let your life be filled with ‘what ifs.’”
Taking the path less traveled on a hike in Costa Rica inspired Hadley ‘25 to reflect during today’s Chapel Talk.
From starting a hike with a chilly river plunge to attending boarding school, she realized that a leap of faith can lead to an incredible journey.

Facing Fear with Darryl Bellamy: Transforming Uncertainty into Action
On September 5, motivation speaker Darryl Bellamy, known for his working with students on overcoming fear, spoke to the Westminster community in an upbeat and inspiring address that kicked off the first week of school.
He believes that understanding and managing fear is crucial for personal growth and success, and his approach centers on facing fear directly and using it as a tool for growth rather than avoiding it.

“When we come face to face with failure, we have two options; we let our failure define us and in response swerve us away from our goals, or we use them to our advantage.”

Bruyette Leadership Academy Kicks Off
With his compelling stories of his experiences as an athlete, a special operations officer in the U.S. Marines, mountain climber, and as a family man, Eric Kapitulik, founder of The Program, addressed student leaders Friday, Sept. 13, on how to become better leaders, better teammates and better individuals.
His message to students was forceful and clear. “Whatever your chosen battlefield, individuals and individual talent can win games, but great teams compete for championships. And great teams are comprised of great teammates and great team leaders.”
Kapitulik’s presentation was sponsored by the Bruyette Leadership Academy, which supports programming through the Bruyette Fund, which was founded by Kathy and Gene Bruyette P’77,’78, who established it in honor of their late son, Brian T. Bruyette ’77, who died from cancer in 1977, shortly after he graduated.
“I learned that your opinion of the world and how you perceive your life is a confession of your character. How I interpret my life reflects who I am as a person, my reaction to challenges can enable me to view obstacles as opportunities.”

“It does not matter what is happening back at home because we always have Westy to return to. I mean, when I’m at home, I am constantly thinking about my friends here and when I get to see them next. When we come back from breaks, we hug each other like it has been years.”
